Every month we select an athlete that demonstrates exceptional dedication, positivity, and support toward their fellow athletes and community. Our featured “Athlete of the Month” for January 2019 is……Vanessa Wendle!

What’s your athletic background?
I’m a 100 and 200m athlete, as well as a national field hockey player. Played softball passionately as well.

What was your first experience with CrossFit?
My first experience with Crossfit was definitely love at first sight.

When did you start CrossFit?
Many moons ago, then stopped due to a shoulder injury and started again in February 2017.

Why did you choose CrossFit Schaffhausen?
I tried many different gyms, sporting activities and umpteen Zumba classes and nothing was really as challenging as Crossfit. And CFS was the only one I knew of at the time and when a friend told me about it, I  thought, why the heck not.

What keeps you coming back?
Firstly the professional coaching, as well as the amazing bunch of Crossfitters.

How do you like to spend your free time?
With family and friends and when I need a quiet moment, I enjoy reading books from my favorite author, James Grisham. Alternatively I’m on a night out with friends or travelling. I’m living my best life…..always.

What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CrossFit?
I feel and look great (“wink, wink”). I am stronger and fitter. Sometimes I look at an object and just think “dang”, I can lift that. CFS is a great stress-reliever for me, I call it my “happy place”, because when I leave after a workout, I am much happier and content. If I miss 2 days, I kinda get withdrawal symptoms….so I could say, I’m a bit addicted, but hey it’s a good addiction.

What are your goals for 2019?
To continue like how I ended off 2018, with a great WOD, great people and an even greater Coach. Oh and if I have to pick one, then to be able to do at least 5 strict pull-ups…..eventually 🙂

What would you say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit?
When people ask me about CFS, I always tell them not to think too much about joining. I always tell them to come and have a look and see that the myth of Crossfit only being for “fit” people is only a myth.

What’s your favorite & least favorite CrossFit movement?
Favorite: Burpees:), Least favorite: ThrustersI have lots of favorite movements, but if I have to pick one, I would say it’s probably a back squat. I used to think my least favorite movement was a burpee, until I discovered that a strict pull-up is my worst nightmare 🙁

What’s your favorite cheat meal?
Definitely Schnipo & beer. I know, don’t anybody dare judge me for that. I’m a beer girl 🙂

Anything else you would like to share with your CrossFit Schaffhausen family?
Stay the amazing bunch of people that you are. And thanks to everyone for the motivation and the passion that you all share at the CFS box. Let’s continue to wake up, workout kick-@** and repeat!
